About Brian
Hi, I'm Brian and I love coaching and teaching photographers. I was an award-winning newspaper photojournalist and photo editor for the Seattle Times Company and the Portland Press-Herald for over 13 years, and a full-time commercial, editorial and advertising photographer for the last 10. I primarily am a portrait photographer and create moment-driven, storytelling imagery. I'm an expert on using off-camera flash and strobes on location.

We arrange for a short, 10-15 minute call to discuss the student's current skill level, interests and goals and to to establish timelines and arrange for lessons.
Retirees, college-age interns, teens.
Do your research by looking at the teacher's body of work online. There are many different types of photographers, so you wouldn't want to contact a product photographer to learn about portraiture, for example. Make sure you connect with their work and it's of interest to you. Second, contact them and determine from their response whether they are interested and available to help you. Third, meet in person or over the phone briefly and once you've met them, go with your gut. Are you comfortable with them?
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kinds of photography are they most drawn to?
What realistic types of skills would they most like to learn?
