About Michael

I've been shooting since areound 2011 but didn't mobe into the professional realm until 2015.

I mostly photography portraiture but also events. Most of my clients have been aspiring actors and models in the Chicagoland area.

Michael Stagg Photography prides itself on providing more than the "norm" (being polite, puntual and professional). I make it my business - literally - to ensure you leave feeling like youve gained more than a competent instructor but also a friend.

I love interacting with people. I enjoy the smiles on their faces when they see their images. Seeing their excitement and satisfaction is why I do what I do!

I probably got started like many others: working with friends and family teaching them how to take better photos with their DSLRs or Smartphones.

I've been a photographer since about the 4th or 5th grade but didn't go all in with my passion until 2011 when my daughters bought me a small point and shoot camera. From there I attended two schools to further my education and finally decided to start up a small photography business in 2015. I don't have a ton of accolades and degrees behind my name. What I do have is the experience and passion to ensure that once we're done you will have a better understanding of your tools and can capture images you'll be proud of!

About the lesson

When I'm contacted about setting up a lesson or series of lessons I always send a questionnaire to get a better understanding of their needs. The next step would be a phone or video conversation to futher clarify needs and see if what I offer is a fit for those needs. The final step is to pick dates and times to meet and get things rolling!

I mostly work with individuals that have little to no experience with a camera or photography. I have worked with a few people that have some experience but want to learn specific things like OCF (Off Camera Flash) or studio lighting for portraits.

Do your due diligence! Research the instructor. Ask for references. Review their work. Make sure that what they offer meets your needs and NEVER be afraid to ask questions.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some important things to think about are:

1. How much time can I devote to learning?

2. How much am I willing to spend to improve my skills?

3. Will photography be a hobby for me or will I eventually want to become a professional photographer?

4. Does the instructor offer various levels of training or specific types of photography training?

5. If I don't have a camera but still want to learn can the instructor provide me with one during our sessions?
