About Kesha
I am hands down THE best beginner's piano instructor in the Metro Atlanta area. My students boast unparalleled confidence at the piano bench in record time as I make it my goal to get them to a point of self-directed learning. Most importantly they develop a love for the piano as I guide them on the path to musicianship with engaged lessons. I take beginners aged 4 to 94 but I won't turn you down if you turned 95 yesterday!
My favorite part of teaching beginner's piano is showing my students what they are capable of! There's nothing quite like overcoming a challenge together. Every student has that technique or song, that proves more difficult than expected. Every student wonders if they can make it past that point. And under my guidance, every student surprises themselves with their own determination and talent. The moment they realize what I already know, that there is no challenge they cannot overcome, is my absolute favorite. When the next challenge comes and they tackle it with even more confidence is a close second.

First things first! What do you know?!
Although I love working with beginner's, I hate starting at the beginning to repeat information a new student is already familiar with. So, our first lesson is spent figuring out exactly what the student knows already. Once we've figured that out, I can determine which books to use and where to start based on the student's individual needs.
Second things second! What do you want to play?!
I'm well aware that not every student is going to be a concert pianist. In fact, not every student WANTS to be a concert pianist. That being said, I make sure to find out what my student's goals are for the piano. This includes finding out their taste in music as well as they're aspirations as a musician. Once I know if I'm working with a future jazz musician or composer, gospel or classical accompanist, then I can determine things like the kind of repertoire we should be learning.
I've worked with beginners of all types and all ages. The youngest beginner I've worked with was 4years old and the oldest was over 50. There's no age to young or too old to start the piano, however, I recommend that young students be able to sit for a 30min lesson before starting. A good judge of this is whether or not they can sit through a 30min episode of their favorite television show.
I also have experience working with students who have special needs. I have successfuly worked with 2 students who have ADHD, 1 with autism, and 1 with dyslexia. All were able to perform at the level of their peers without excessive difficulty.
For adult students looking to start, hire someone who either specializes in the type of music you enjoy playing or has experience playing the piano. Believe it or not, there are alot of piano teachers out there who do not play the piano. While this may be alright in some instances for young beginners, a dedicated adult student could quickly outperform their teacher.
For parents looking to start their children in piano, be sure to find someone that gets along with your child. A teacher your child doesn't respect or enjoy will never be able to challenge your child effectively or gently push them past the rough patches that are sure to come without also creating a dislike for the instrument overall. In other words, if you don't want to have to force them to practice, don't force them to take lessons with a teacher they don't like.

Omg!!! MRS Lake is a phenomenal teacher. One of my four boys has an attention issue and can not stay focused and also has difficulty expressing himself. Since receiving lessons from Mrs Lake, he has been improving in his grades, but mainly his confidence. He has become a go better motivated by the fact that when he sees her he gets excited to tell her everything going with him and school. She has been and still is a great addition to my family building. I recommend her.highly for any lesson!!!!!!
Kesha instructed my son with beginners piano lessons. She motivated him and helped him gain confidence while building a love for classical music. She is an amazing teacher with the right levels of sensitivity and creativity. I would not hesitate to recommend her to any one who wants to commit to the study of classical music.
Kesha taught my daughter to play the piano. Chyna, my daughter, was only 7. Kesha made learning fun and stirred up a desire within Chyna to excel. Kesha's teaching style is simple, logical, and progressive. She adapts the lessons to meet the needs of each student. She is great with children and has an amazing ability to execute love and structure together. The influence she left with my daughter is life long. 6 yrs later and Chyna still loves playing the piano. Every child should have the privilege of such a loving teacher. She's awesome!!!
She was an excellent piano teacher for my daughter. She was very engaging and informative.
Kesha is an amazing piano teacher! She is currently instructing my 5 year old son and he looks forward to their lesson every week. Throughout the week at home, he is constantly practicing the new stuff he just learned as well as trying to come up with his own stuff. She has a way of being able to talior her lessons to any age group and any level of experience.
