About Julie
I am a pianist, composer and recording artist. I love to work with pianists of all ages - from beginners through advanced intermediate. My specialties are meeting students where they are, adapting my teaching to fit their unique learning style and making the process of learning the piano fun. I also love to encourage my students to write their own music and improvise. You can find my original music on your favorite music streaming service (like Spotify, Pandora, etc.) by searching for Julie Hanney, in case you are interested in hearing what I've been writing these days. :-)
I have been teaching for over 20 years and I have a degree in music from the University of Oregon. In addition to writing music for piano, I am a published composer of works for choir. I have also written and arranged music for various instrumental ensembles including string quartet, string trio, cello, cello and piano, violin and piano, etc. I am also the author of two piano songbooks: Looks Easy, Sounds Hard and Jazzy Piano Jams. I'm now working on Looks Easy, Sounds Hard - Volume Two.
