EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science, Music Education (2016)Corban University / Salem, Oregon

summa cum laude

After my freshman year of college, I knew I wanted to be a teacher! Music is my favorite subject, but I have enjoyed working with kids in many different arenas, from tutoring to VBS to the classroom.

I fell in love with music at a very young age. I was always involved in choir, band, music theater, worship bands, and every other music opportunity available.

I graduated from Corban University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, where I sang in Concert and Chamber Choir, performed as Nimue in "Camelot," played clarinet and bassoon in Concert Band, and took voice and piano lessons.

I have worked in the Walla Walla Public Schools as a secondary music teacher for the past four years, teaching choir, piano, guitar, and musical theater. I currently study voice with Molly Holleran.

About the lesson

In our first lesson, we will discuss your musical goals! From there, we will make a plan based on your interests, whether that be music literacy, technique, ear training, sight reading, or a mixture of all of those!

In vocal lessons, we will focus on creating a beautiful and healthy sound through working on technique such as breath support, tone quality, diction, vowel modification, resonance, and expression.

In beginning piano lessons, we will concentrate on your goals regarding music reading, scales, chords, music theory, etc.

I love working with all ages! I currently teach grades 6-12, but I have worked with students from ages 5-18.

Find a teacher who loves what they do! If music isn't fun, you're doing it wrong! :)

One of my favorite activities is to take my middle school honor choir to perform at retirement homes. Residents at these homes are the best audiences, and we always learn so much from them!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what kind of music you want to play! What makes you happy? Above all, music should be fun. Music should not be learned or performed out of a sense of obligation, but out of passion and a desire to express oneself.
