About Daniel

Hi! My names Dan and I am currently a grad student at Northwestern for Child Counseling and play in a local band, as well as work with other musicians on various projects! I took piano lessons from ages 7-15 and have played ever since. I have taught beginning piano lessons before and want to help you or your child learn the basic and intermediate skills needed to have a blast playing your favorite songs and with other people! Playing with and for other people is my favorite part of music and I teach with that, as well as a development of personal style, in mind!

I started teaching with my younger siblings and then taught several of my friend's younger siblings and peers in high school and college.

I took piano lessons for 8 years, took several music theory and performance classes in college, and have played and currently play in several bands.

About the lesson

When starting with a new student, I will spend the first session getting to know eachother and then assessing where they are and where they want to go with piano. From there, I formulate a lesson plan for them and work through the same exercises I use, while supplementing their learning with activities tailored to each student's interests (like learning songs they like that highlight techniques they are ready to learn).

Most of my teaching experience is with kids and teens.

I would say that each student should clearly articulate what they hope to gain from lessons so that the teacher can better meet the student's needs. Communication and joint goals between student and teacher are vital to the learning process.

Playing an instrument is an invisible gift that can only be shared through playing. I love being able to surprise and entertain people by just sitting down and playing for them. In downtown Denver, they have several upright pianos set up in a main square that anyone can play. When I was there recently, I sat and played and ended up jamming out some classic blues as a duet with a complete stranger! That feeling and connection is something I want to pass on to others.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Learning the piano takes much more time outside of lessons than in lessons. It is important to know that practice time outside of lessons is vital to a student's success. Also, I am only a beginner piano teacher. For students looking to become a professional, I would recommend a graduate student in piano, the same thing that I had for my last two years of lessons in high school.

Yes! I charge $20 for a half-hour session. However, if travel becomes a significant cost to get to your location, I may increase the price by $5.
