About Sarah

Music is everywhere. Our job is to discover it, enjoy it, learn it, and communicate it to those around us, in a way that helps us and our fellow man draw closer to Beauty, Goodness and Truth.

My goal as a music/piano teacher is to help students discover music and learn to play and create it themselves. A key ingredient in my teaching is musicality and artistry, understanding - helping the students learn not only the skills they need to play but how to play with feeling and understanding. I help them discover their musical preferences and gifts (if they don’t know them) and to coach them in a way that develops and honors those, while giving them the fundamental skills and musical foundation they need to excel and enjoy the music they’re creating.

I create a custom designed approach to your music lessons based on goals we create together so that you can develop the skills you need to play the way you want to play.

Qualifications:

12 years of intensive piano study

Bachelor of Music in Composition, minor in vocal performance

20 years of professional composing, recording and performing experience

5 full length albums (2 of them on Spotify and iTunes)

2 years of formal piano teaching

6 years of educating my 7 children at home

9 years teaching students in a private and homeschool context

3 months as an interim Worship Director

Experience:

My family relocated from MI to PA 4 years ago and having finally settled our family of nine (7 children) I am opening my private piano studio here for the first time. I was trained as a pianist by renowned pianist and pedagogical composer, Catherine Rollin. In addition, I have 20 years of experience as a performer, pianist, singer, composer, and recording artist, as well as 9 years of general teaching experience in a homeschool and private school context.

I am confident that as a result of studying music with me, you or your child will grow as a musician with the ability to appreciate and communicate through music and their unique creative expressions what is good, true and beautiful in our world.

I look forward to meeting with you and creating a plan together!

~Sarah Brown

Sarah Brown Music

Besides loving music and helping others to love and play it, I love working with the unique ability, temperment and personality of each child/ adult. I love the creative process of helping children and adults learn something in a way that makes sense to them and helping them find victory over challenges.

About the lesson

We have an initial meeting to discuss their goals and objectives as well as my philosophy of teaching. From there we'll determine if our styles and goals will be a good match for each other. If so, I'll go over my studio policies and expectations and we'll set up a date and time to begin lessons. The first lesson will be a lot of orientation on both sides - them getting to know me and me getting to know them and their abilities. From there I'll create a strategy that will move them forward in their musical goals.
