About Janie
My mom taught me how to play the piano and I loved hearing her play every day with possession and beauty. She made the music come alive! As a child, I struggled to sleep at night... On those nights that I couldn't sleep, I would go downstairs and watch her play and feel peace and comfort. I think of how much I love her and how beautiful she was and how beautiful the music was that she played. I wanted to be like her. That is how I started wanting to be a piano teacher. I learned to play piano with that same feeling and accuracy. I practiced and practiced... Now, I teach others to do the same. Years ago, when people heard me playing the piano, they asked me to please teach their children to play piano. That's how I got started. I had the desire to teach and others desired for me to teach their children or even themselves to play piano. It is a true passion of mine to play and teach piano.
I have been playing piano for 39 years and have taught many, many students for nearly 20 years. I have patience, knowledge, excellent people and communication skills and love what I do!

I start by introducing myself and telling my new students a little bit about me. I like to learn more about them and their "why" for learning piano and their interests. I express my gratitude with them choosing me to be their teacher when there are so many choices! I share my love of teaching and the importance of giving them my very best. I let them know what each lesson will look like as far as what they can expect and what I expect from them as their teacher... Practicing, willingness to learn and grow, the importance of asking questions and also having fun with their learning! Then, we get started!
I have taught students ranging in ages 5-63 with varying skill levels. I have experience teaching students that are both focused and those that are easily distracted. I love all the different personalities and energy levels that come though my door! Some of my students come to me with high anxiety and usually leave here feeling much better. I truly love what I do. I love and respect where each person is in their lives and desire to do my best to bring light and love into this world.
I would invite you to consider looking for a teacher that LOVES what they do! Also, find someone who is kind and knowledgeable. If they love teaching and love people, it'll show in their countenance. Ask questions! Be open about your desires and expectations. Best of luck!
This was pre-COVID...
I had set up a recital at an assisted living facility in Meridian. The students worked so hard to learn and master their songs. They knew that they were going to go play for these people that were excited and delighted to hear their songs. Seeing that room full of residents and my students and their families was enriching to my soul. Every song, every student, every person that was there was such a joy to see. The power of music is so real. My heart was beaming with joy and gladness as I watched my students, one by one, perform their songs they had worked so hard on. At the end of the recital, there was a resident who had dementia and although she struggled with that, she remembered how to play the piano amazingly well! We invited her to play at the end of our recital and she did! Everyone loved that and could see the beauty and the magic of music! That was such a special, special day! My students still talk about that experience and how much they loved it!
