About Anne

Set in historic schoolhouse with antiques and piano showroom; specializing in adult beginners, relaxed atmosphere, over 30 years teaching experience; former music school owner for 25 years. Teacher is also a Christian singer/songwriter, church music director and performing artist.

I especially like opening up a whole new view for my students to appreciate not only making their own music, but how to better enjoy listening to music; so that they really are aware of what's going on with a performance. In addition to traditional reading, there is a certain amount of listening analysis in the lesson programs that assists students with hearing structure and many students are able to develop the skills to "pick off" favorite songs from the radio and media before we even order the sheet music.

About the lesson

Each student is evaluated to look for strengths and particular talents, then a mixed program of technique, theory and performance is implemented based on their skill set. Simplified arrangements of known songs are encouraged very soon in the program to provide practice incentives and help the student to maintain a desire for making the piano part of their daily routine for both advancement and enjoyment!

Every range from very young to in their 80's. I also have experience with special needs students and even memory care residents. The average student I teach currently are from their 20's thru 70's who would like to play for enjoyment; some are vocalists who need coaching on how to accompany themselves while singing.

Don't be afraid to have high aspirations just because you may be a little older. Many skills, especially hand-eye coordination (such as the computer or other work equipment) can add dexterity when approaching the piano. Adults often feel they are "too late" to learn how to play, but their passion to play and a lifetime of listening to music can really be a tremendous resource for them!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Perhaps to prepare a short list of favorite songs they have always wanted to play; favorite artists they listen to and be thinking about time available that they can dedicate to some practice without interruptions or a time they would not be fatiqued.
