About Jason

My lessons are extremely customizable. If the student wants to learn a rare piece for which notes are not available, I take the time to craft an arrangement of the piece that will be suitable for the student's level--not too challenging, but not too easy either. Surely, I also provide structured classical training using one specific book series.

It's rewarding watching the students leave with a smile and achieve something new, but the truly most magical moments are the lessons themselves--spending time with artistic individuals, observing the learning process, and coming up with creative solutions.

I have completed the Music Teachers' Association of California Level 10: Advanced Certificate of Merit Exam (the highest level), and I continued my piano performance studies at the University of California, Davis, where I was double majoring in music. I have been teaching nearly every day for six years now.

About the lesson

During the first lesson, I evaluate the student with some basic building blocks, such as finding the keys on the piano, or even some five-finger patterns. We finish with a few fun games to review what we've learned. On lesson two, we begin the Alfred book series, learn the proper hand shape, rhythm, and a few basic notes. From then on, we continue with the book at a rate of one-two pages per lesson. If the student is older, I eventually introduce the written theory book.
