About Reed
Reed Pittman
Reed has been a professional musician for 13 years after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in music from Belmont University in 2007. He has since lived and worked as a freelance musician, teacher, songwriter and session player in Nashville, TN. He first began teaching during the summer while in college and has a long background in the field. He now has over 10 years of experience and with backgrounds in both classical and jazz training, he is capable of tackling a broad range of styles and concepts at the piano, depending on what the student desires. He can start at the beginning with someone who is just being introduced to the piano as well as help someone who is further along and wants to broaden their skills.
Reed is currently touring with/bandleading for country singer David Nail and has toured in the past with Francesca Battistelli, Dave Barnes and Brandon Heath, among others. For a full list of his accomplishments as a freelance musician and a songwriter please visit reedpittman.com.
I love helping new students or experienced ones get further down the road in their ability at the piano. Most of all, it's fun to see them find joy at playing the instrument and feeling that sense of accomplishment when they work on something and get better at it!
I started when I was home for the summers from college. I just put out some flyers and started teaching some kids in the area in Georgia, then I did the same in Nashville and my teaching business slowly grew from there.
I have a BM from Belmont University (2007) and have been teaching privately since 2005. I was classically trained originally and have extensive experience in jazz, pop, country, rock and other contemporary styles as well. I'd love to pass on any knowledge I've gained and hopefully the joy for playing the piano that I found when I was 10 years old.

I like to set up a lesson and just go over what the student wants to accomplish. Do they want classical training and to learn how to read music or do they want more unorthodox training in pop/jazz/rock styles and learning chord theory and harmony approaches? No question or approach is off limits! I'm here to help in any way!
All ages. I've worked with a lot of kids over the years, as young as 4 years old, and some adults as well. Primarily it's been beginners but I think that is just the nature of it. I have worked with some more experienced students and would love to do that as well.
Find someone that loves what they do and the instrument they play. You can get info from anywhere, youtube, etc... but you can't replace the passion of 1-on-1 time with someone who really cares about you and your growth at an instrument.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Depends on the age, for sure. If the student is a child, then it may be something the parents are encouraging them to try, which is great! If they are older, they may have a clearer idea of what they want to get out of it. Either way, a good question is just getting a feel for what you want out of the lessons. Where would you like to be in a year, 5 years, etc...? What is something you can't do at the instrument that you'd love to be able to do?

Reid has been an amazing piano teacher. He’s very professional and knowledgeable, he teaches theory as well as chords. He gears lessons specifically for his students’ abilities, not too overwhelming but still challenging. My daughter can play just about anything now by reading music or by ear thanks to Reed!
Reed is very talented and professional, but more importantly he works very well with kids! His patience amazes me. I was unsure how virtual piano lessons would work, but I could not be happier with how smoothly it has gone each week. My daughter is really enjoying it and learning how to play the piano better than I expected! If I would make the time to practice more, I would also take lessons from Reed.
