About Laura

I cater my teaching to your student's learning style. I focus each lesson on music theory, scales, and learning songs. I believe it is very important to have fun learning to play the piano, so in addition to learning classical music we also learn fun songs (that the student chooses) like pop, Disney, musicals or contemporary music.

I love seeing my students have fun learning while developing their music skills. When the concepts they are learning clicks and their piano skills soar it bring joy to my heart. Also, seeing my students so excited and their parents/families beaming with pride as they perform the songs they've worked hard on learning makes teaching so awesome!

I began my teaching career because of my senior project in high school. I researched how music influences the brains of children learning and taught 4 students of different ages. That began my passion for teaching piano. Ever since that experience, I have taught hundreds of different students of varying ages (4-50) and levels. Teaching is my passion and I love sharing that with others through teaching.

I took piano lessons for 12 years and have been teaching for 12 years. I have taught hundreds of students over the years in varying levels. I usually teach beginner to intermediate level students.

About the lesson

My training is in classical piano and that is what I teach. When I first meet a new student we have a trial class where I assess the student's knowledge and ability. We begin by learning music theory and apply that knowledge to playing the piano. Learning music theory is very important so I put a lot of emphasis on completing and practicing theory. Once I understand the student's ability and knowledge we begin at that level and progress at the student's pace. I believe very strongly that you need to have fun while playing the piano, so along with the classical music and theory we also learn pop, musical and contemporary music (whatever the student would like to learn).

I have worked with many different ages of student. Ages varying from 4 years old to 50 years old. Most of my students began as beginners with a few that began with me as late beginner or intermediate level.

It is important for your student to have a teacher that understands their learning style, works well with their personality and will keep your student excited to learn and develop their musical talents.
