About Joanne

I am very flexible in scheduling and rescheduling lesson times for whatever reason. I expect a day's notice, however.

I offer theory computer learning on my iPad and on my laptop Mac as an adjunct to private piano lessons thereby reinforcing what is being studied at the time.

I have informal recitals in my home 3 times a year, so that performing is experienced and students see and hear what others are accomplishing.

I love music and I love teaching it. Every student has special needs and talents that I take into consideration. I have taught music for 20 years K through 8th grades in a private school and have participated in theatre music as a musician and music director for 40 years.

I am an active member of the Music Teachers' Assiociation of California, having the education and experience that that professional organization requires.

My teacher went to Europe one summer and left her students for me to teach.

Private teachers then ten years of college courses.

About the lesson

I use method lesson, technic, recital and theory books suited to the student's age. Amount to study during the following week is written in an assignment book. When pieces are well learned, the student chooses favorites and puts them into a repertoire binder that gets reviewed weekly.

All ages—6 to 86

I teach traditional repertoire, modern styles and pop tunes, and I emphasize theory, especially related to applied theory—harmony and chords.

In Trolhaugen, Norway this summer I visited composer Edvard Grieg's home and attended a concert there.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would leave that up to them, and am prepared to answer anything they'd like to know. Most beginners wouldn't know what to ask since they have no experience.

Experienced students are welcome and usually tell me what they're interested in learning.
