Make sure you can work together in a positive way and the students needs to understand that practice is the key to success. The teacher has maybe 1/2 hour to guide them. It is up to the student to follow through during the week with a regular practice routine.
My all time favorite violinist is Itzhak Perlman. I love his warm personality that transfers to his playing. I'm enjoying the Ahmanson theater and attend as often as time allows.

You are my #1 piano teacher! Thank you for being there for me all these years and for putting up with me and my tendency to forget sharps and flats. It is always a ton of fun playing duets with you and spending time with you.
I recall meeting you 11 years ago when you arrived at our doorstep with the passion for teaching in your heart and music in your soul. I cannot wait to see you continuing to inspire many other kids like me.
