About Cheyenne

I can provide a fully customizable curriculum with practice tips for each student based on age, musical interests, learning level, and personal goals. I also have extensive knowledge of music from around the world.

There's a deep connection between music and our emotions that has always resonated with me. Being able to teach others how to express themselves through music and have a healthy outlet is my purpose in life.

I started teaching family and friends of the family on and off for a few years. Soon after, I started teaching children in the church how to play the piano. It took off from them.

I've been playing the piano since I was a child. I was in CUNY Brooklyn College's Conservatory as a piano performance pajor for 2 years until I had to move. I have also taught children from my church and subbed as a piano teacher for over 3 years.

About the lesson

The first step is to get aquainted with the piano, how to sit, and how to number your fingers. I also go over the white keys of the piano, middle C, and have the student point out all the similar keys.

I have taught children and young adults from 4 years and up. I also have 2 years of experience working with children with disabilities though I wasn't teaching them piano. Most of my students were complete beginers, but some of them were more advanced.

I would want them to think about what kind of music they want to learn. Do they love classical, broadway, pop songs, jazz? While everyone would start out similarly, I can better cater to a student's needs if I know what they're expecting from me. Not everyone needs to start out with classical.

I was subbing and my student was a very shy girl who was writing her own songs. Sitting with her, talking about our experiences as musicians, and getting her to open up just a little bit more was a great experience. Outside from teaching her that day, I was able to make a connection to another musician and hopefully made it easier for her to come out of her shell to others.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I'm not sure, sometimes you won't know what exactly to ask or think about when you're starting out. Instead of having to think certain things through on your own, we can figure it out together.
