About Andrew

Skate Instruction is an inline and roller skating school in the metropolitan Washington, DC Area. Taught by certified skating instructors, our lessons are offered for all ages and ability levels from the first time skater to the avid skate enthusiast as well as the street skater.

We teach at various DC locations, including outdoor lessons at Rock Creek Park and indoor lessons at the Kraken roller rink next to the Rhode Island Avenue metro station.

As the principal instructor, I'm a long time street skater and skate event organizer. I learned to skate on the streets of Manhattan and routinely led and managed group street skates with hundreds of participants safely. I developed my skills as a skate instructor through Skate Patrol in Central Park in the 90s and continued teaching at various skate schools throughout the years in Manhattan and Washington DC.

Our staff includes instructors specializing in a wide range of skating styles including jam or style skating, artistic skating, and trail or street skating.

Our instructors are certified and insured by SkateIA, the Skate Instructors Association ((concealed information) or recognized by USARS, USA Roller Sports, the governing body in the US for competitive skating .

About the lesson

We offer customized private lessons to help you advance your skills based on a wide range of interests, including trail and street skating, slalom, skatepark or jam skating.

Group Lessons: Beginner skate lessons are focused on getting you comfortable on your skates. We'll start in a grassy area or on a carpet to help build your confidence. Before you know it, you'll be skating around with confidence.

We have worked with students interested in a variety of different styles of skating ranging from trail or street skating to dance or artistic skating. We've worked with skaters from young adults to retired professionals looking for new adventures. Our biggest area of specialty is getting new skaters comfortable on skates -- we have a detailed process for that to help new skaters build their comfort, confidence and skills.

When shopping for a skate instructor, it's helpful to find one who is certified and insured. That way you'll know that they are able to teach to a quality standard with your safety in mind.

We recently organized and led the Sakura Roll, a spring street skate to explore the cherry blossoms in the downtown DC area. The turnout was wonderful and included the special enjoyment of skating with 50 of our closest skater friends.
