About Adam

As a teacher, I strive to instill a sense of wonder in the arts, as well as appreciation for all kinds of music in my students. As a saxophone instructor, I focus on a solid foundation of the basics (scales, overtones) in tandem with growing musicality.

I have been teaching saxophone lessons and masterclasses for 7 years. I am a professional performer as well and have performed with local acts in the Northeast Wisconsin area; such as Water City Jazz Orchestra and Big Band Reunion; Minneapolis and Chicago based acts, such as the Bill Simenson Orchestra and Matt Kavanaugh Quartet; and larger national acts such as the Four Tops and Temptations.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music from UW-Oshkosh and a Master's in Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University.

I love seeing students succeed through the work they have put in. Progress in music can seem intangible at times, but when it comes around, it propels students forward in a way unique to the craft!

I started teaching while still in my undergraduate program at UW-Oshkosh. I continued teaching during my time living in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and branched out while in Illinois, teaching at the Community School for the Arts in DeKalb, Il and directing a local community big band.

About the lesson

With new students, we start slow and make sure that the solid foundtion of understanding the notes on the instrument, and how to read music is solid. Once those two elements are rock steady, we branch out to other areas of music that can be dictated by the student.

I have worked with students just getting started in 5th grade band, and with retirees looking to get back into playing after taking years (or more) off!
