About Belén

I have been teaching fore more than 10 years and I am really helpful with beginners. I can help you finding the courage to actually speak the language from the very beginning.

I have always felt passion about languages and everything we can learn by speaking a foreign language. After my children, my passions in life are learning and teaching languages and yoga. I feel excited about the opportunity to work from home because I have researched about online teaching innovative methodologies. I love teaching online as I can still apply some of the things I learnt inside a classroom. My love for languages started when I was little; when I used to visit a friend from school and her entire family would speak Russian.

After studying English for 12 years at school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career connected with languages. One option was Literature but then I chose a Translation and Interpreting degree. In addition, as there are many teachers in my family, teaching was immediately on my radar. That is how I graduated as an English teacher, after studying Translation.

I had been teaching English before becoming a teacher, usually kids who needed help to complete homework or to fully understand specific contents before a test. Therefore, when I started working at Universidad de Chile, as an English teacher for undergraduate students, I realized I was good at helping beginners. I learned about scaffolding and the importance of using the language instead of just reading and writing it. At the same, as I had foreign colleagues, I started teaching Spanish to small groups as well as individually. I have been happy to apply everything I have learnt about language learning to help students master Spanish whatever the reason they had to study.

I started before graduating because I simply love teaching languages. I had the experience but not the degree so then I graduated after studying a programme designed for translators, who wanted to become English teachers.

I graduated as a Secondary Education English Teacher after I graduated as a English-Spanish Translator and Interpreter. I have been teaching for more than twelve years now and as I love learning and teaching languages I can help with language learning strategies. Also, I'm good with beginners as a language learner myself I can share lots of ideas and tools to improve our learning process.

About the lesson

I ask my students for how long they think they can commit to study the language. I also ask them what do they need the language for, maybe it's for work or studies.

I also ask them to complete a level test and after that, usually on Lesson 0, I assess speaking.

Most of my students are adults because I'm not good with children. I worked for ten years with undergraduate students in the Social Sciences Faculty, at Universidad de Chile. Additionally, I have had many private students troughout my career.
