About Elvia

I have been a Spanish teacher for 8 years in association with the Latin-American Language Center and EF school. My curriculum focuses on my students' oral fluency and helping them immerse with the Latin-American language and culture. I also host cultural trips and events for my students with the purpose of immersion and help them find a language partner to practice their Spanish.

What I love about teaching is that I get an opportunity to help my students connect with the Spanish speaking community. Witnessing my students improve in their conversational skills, having the ability to speak freely to their spanish speaking friends, loved ones, or even complete strangers is very rewarding.

I started teaching around 8 years ago, helping multiple schools as an intern with their online curriculum and digital platforms. I trained as a teacher and became more invested in the teaching procress and creating multiple tools for my students.

I have trained as a teacher in the Latin-American Language Center and have taught for 8 years and have a major in Media Studies from the Art Institute in Chicago and sppecializing in Latin-American telecommunications. Through my studies I have created a curriculum that aids students through different media metholigies to stray away from a typical lecture-based classs.

About the lesson

Typically, with a new student I have them take an assesment test to see what level of Spanish they are in. The assement follos that of the DELE School grading level system with some adjustments from the Latin-American language Center curriculum (in order to adjust to the Latin-American language).

I have worked with elementary and high school teachers from the Brighton Park area with the intention of speaking more efficiently to spanig speaking parents and student.
I have also worked with doctors and nurses creating a curriculum in which they can communicate better with their Spanish speaking patients. Generally my students come to me with the purpose of becoming speaking with Native speakers.

I recommend to any student that the adequate teacher will cater to your learning cabilities and available resources. (1) ask yourself what kind of Spanish do you want to learn? Latin-American Spanish or Castellano (from Spain)? (2) What is your personal goal, to become fluent, to pass the DELE exam or to have conversational communication for travel? (3) evaluate your time and committment, cosistency is key. It's much preferaly to take classes everyday even if it means 30 mins rather than taking 2 hour classes every week.
