About Emily

Hola, ciao,

I have been studying and teaching languages (Spanish and Italian) for decades. I took every foreign language class I could get into my schedule in both high school and college and completed degrees in languages and linguistics. I adore languages and love sharing that passion with others who are interested in learning.

I enjoy working with other people that are interested In learning a foreign language and getting to know my students and watching their language learning journey.

I have a huge library of language books and tons of materials I have designed myself. I will provide everything that you need.

I do all of my lessons online via Zoom.

My current availability (in 2025) is Mon-Wed mornings between 9-11:30 or evenings around 6:30.

I look forward to hearing from you and would love to help you with your goal of learning Spanish or Italian.

I started taking Spanish in the 8th grade and I was instantly hooked and knew right then that I would study languages in college. I started French in the 10th grade. I was a cadet teacher (the high school version of a TA) my junior and senior years in high school. As an undergrad I started tutoring Spanish and in grad school on top of being a TA in the Spanish, Italian and Linguistics departments I continued tutoring Spanish and also began tutoring Italian and some Latin.

I have degrees from the University of North Texas in Spanish, Italian and French and an MA in Linguistics.

About the lesson

During our first meeting I like to talk to all my new students about past language experience, goals, motivation, learning style etc. I use this information to design a lesson plan specicially geared to each student.

I have worked with students from the ages of 12 to people in their 80’s with a wide variety of goals. I have taught individuals, classes, and small groups including corporate groups.

A language teacher should of course have an excellent command of the language but also the ability to teach and explain general language concepts and rules. My Linguistics degree helps me a great deal with my teaching ability.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your goals? Fluency, travel, basic conversation...

How much time to you have to dedicate to taking lessons and outside study?

Do you have a time frame, preparing for a specific trip etc?

Do you know what your learning style is?

She is great! Very thorough in explaining grammar. I really enjoy her class. She has so many extra helpful exercises, worksheets, etc to help me further my Italian language skills.
