About JOHANNA
Hello everyone,
All my experience as a tutor started with my bachelor's degree in Graphic design in my native country Colombia where I used to teach, and now as a college student pursuing a certificate in education. I have 10 years of experience teaching, two of them here in the US.
I can tell that the best results I got from my students are base on my record learning and observing other teachers' classes but furthermore, my students' results. My classes are very dynamic and useful to remember by doing practices called "experiences" in one session. It helps to improve vocabulary, speaking and reading in daily or specific situations. All the practices are determined according to the first-class feedback, expectations, needs, and the students' results.
I believe is easier to learn from the experience rather than only reading a book. Then, memorizing would be easier and connect with real situations. I love tutoring for the creative process with every student and the results when the student shows independency and autonomy with the language.
I think I'm an excellent passionate tutor who wants to make a difference in my student's trough commitment, patience, and persistence.
It's very rewarding to make a class and see the students' progress in the next one. it's more rewarding when I can see the independency that students get when telling stories and control the language in real situations. I enjoy all the processes of creating individual plans for classes and focusing on each one needs.
After I got my Bachelor's, I started assisting and replacing teachers in associates degree classes.

The process I follow with a new student is:
I always start introducing my self.
Then, I mention the most important thing about my experience.
I say what I do in my leisure time.
I alternate the questions asking the same to the student inviting her/him to get involved in a casual conversation.
Finally, I ask the expectations and needs, as well as if the student want to take a little test to determine her/his level in the language or if prefer to start from the beginning.
Most of my students are from high school and adults.
I suggest that students read the complete profile of a bunch of tutors and select the one who has more things in common. It shows that probably there will be empathy and topics to talk about easily to practice. Give an opportunity to the tutor to know you, no matter how good or not the student has knowledge about the subject but it helps the tutor to think about a plan for the next class that helps.
I love dogs, so I try to be part as much as possible in my hometown shelter during the adoption's events. I go there to guide people and clean the dogs and I love it. But, because I'm a good seller, what I enjoy more is to show a dog to a new family and get it adopted. It's so rewarding to see people falling in love with a dog and change the animal's life.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about:
Why are you taking this class?
Do you have a deadline to learn any specific topic?
Did you take this class before? when?
Do you have the chance to practice at home or work with anybody?
What kind of situations are you involved in the Spanish language?
What are your expectations and needs that take you to study the language?
Do you know basic Spanish concepts to take a little test?
