About Jilenny

I am a proud Dominican who celebrates her Hispanic culture wherever possible. Spanish represents my culture and I believe is a beautiful language to learn and perfect it. It is because I take pride in knowing this language since growing up in Dominican Republic that I have a passion for teaching it to others and share that excitement with those who appreciate and see the value of learning Spanish.

What I enjoy the most about my job as a Spanish teacher/tutor is the satisfaction of seeing a student realize "I understad this now," or "I am learning or bettering this language." Nothing else compares to the realization that we are all capable of learning or bettering something in our lives.

As a student I like the school environment and being surrounded by young people because they inspire me to never stop learning and innovate myself.

I have been teaching for the Department of Education in New York City for four years now. I am contantly doing professional development and learning new ways to improve my pedagogy.

About the lesson

I will survey the student to have a general background of the student and know how to plan to best assist the student in the tutoring sessions. I would be interested in knowing the exposure this student has had to the Spanish language.

I have mostly worked with students who are heritage speakers of Spanish and students who are learning Spanish as a new language.

Communicate your learning style and focus for learning to the teacher. This will help the teacher accomodate your needs and maximize your learning.
