About Khirah
Hello! It is wonderful to meet you. I am currently in my 11th year of teaching. I have a background in elementary education and special education. I have taught multiple grade levels: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. I have also coached middle school and high school track. I have taught in both Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Although I love PA, my heart belongs in the warm SC weather.
My favorite subjects are math and social studies.
I received my Bachelor's from Slippery Rock University as a dual major: elementary education and special education. I went back to SRU for my masters in School Supervision: Special Education.
I love working with younger people and helping them toward achieving their goals. I enjoy finding their passions and figuring out how they can be applied to their lives.
I started teaching for two different reasons. The first reason was because of my family. My father is a teacher and my mother always dreamed of being a teacher. My grandmother is a preschool teacher and my grandfather taught high-school German. They always encouraged me to follow my dreams and my dreams lead me to teaching.
The second reason I became a teacher was because of my best friend from middle school till today. Her brother is an individual with Downs Syndrome. Growing up with my best friend, her brother, and their family really ignited my passion for teachign students with special needs and was a reason I wanted to have a dual major in special education.
I am a teacher as my profession. I have been teaching elementary and middle school students for the past 11 years. I have my elementary K-6 certification and my special education K-12 certification. Additionally, I have a Masters in School Supervision: Special Education.

When working with a new student the most important foundational block is building a relationship. Without a strong and secure relationship, there will be minimual learning. I try to develop this relationship with in the first few tuoring sessions and then build upon it throughout our time together. After a connection has been made, then we can delve into more core content information.
I have worked with a diverse variety of students.
Age ranges: 7 years-10 years (2nd-4th grade), 11 years-14 years (6th-8th) and I have coached both middle school and high school track.
I have taught both elementary and middle school general education students and special education students of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and learning needs.
Think about what you would like out of the tutoring sessions and how you can communicate your expectations with me.
I recently took my two-year-old daughter to The WonderWorks Museum with my mom and sister. It was a fun-filled day with play and learning. It was wonderful to watch my daughter interact with both my mom and sister in such a fun environment. Seeing her eyes light up when she saw a life-sized Lite Brite was amazing. Also, watching my mom and sister have such a special time with her was also rewarding. We are truly lucky to have such a great family!
