About Maryellen
Hi! I’m a special education focused tutor with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Mild to Moderate Exceptionalities) and over five years of classroom experience working with students in grades K–12. I am currently in my final semester of my Masters of Education, Educational Technology and Instructional Design program. My background is primarily special education although I have experience in both special education and general education settings. Additionally, I currently work at the high school level, providing targeted academic and executive functioning support.
I take a whole student approach to learning, recognizing that academic progress is closely tied to emotional well being. My sessions are structured, supportive, and individualized, with an emphasis on breaking down concepts into manageable steps while also supporting executive functioning and confidence.
I’m also a parent to two neurodivergent teenagers, which gives me a strong sense of empathy and real world understanding of the challenges students face. Supporting students both emotionally and academically is central to my work, and I strive to create a calm, encouraging environment where students feel seen, supported, and capable of growth.
