About Shelbi

I have a passion for helping swimmers improve their strokes, making them more efficient in the water. I also can share practical advice about scholarship opportunities in swimming, meet etiquette, goal setting, and more.

I was a competitive swimmer for over a decade, and earned a scholarship to Rice University, a Division I school. During my time swimming at Rice, I set a few school records, placed individually several times at the Conference CUSA Championship, and earned Team CUSA Conference Champion two years in a row (2012/13 & 2013/2014).

My strengths in swimming were in the IM, Freestyle, Breastroke, and Butterfly. I have had experience training for a variety of races, from short freestyle sprints, to longer breastroke races, to the 400 IM. (My coach in college called me the "wild card", because he could put me in pretty much any race we needed someone to swim!)

I have raced in several Grand Prix Meets alongside world champion swimmers including Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Rebecca Soni, Katie Hoff, Missy Franklin, Simone Manuel, and others.

I have taught swimming to all age groups and experience levels - from young elementary school kids who have never been in a pool to competitive highschool and college athletes looking to improve on their form. The best thing about coaching is being able to share my expertise and help others find joy in the sport that I love.

In 2015, I taught as a certified swim instructor for 2nd and 4th grade programs for LISD schools, teaching them water safety and basic swim techniques.

Private Swim Coaching, 4 years.

Have been CPR/First Aid/Water Safety Instructor certified in the past, but currently pursuing a recertification.

About the lesson

Swimming lessons offered by Shelbi are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Brooklyn. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.

Details

I charge $60 for 40 minute swim lessons, ages 5+, $20 extra for each additional child (max 4).

For competitive swimmers looking to improve their stroke or form, I charge $60/30min or $100/hr for private 1 on 1 lessons. If you don't have a specific stroke or area you would like to focus on, I can do a discounted intake session where we go through each stroke and develop a plan for your swimmer.
