About Milton

Teaching an all-court playing style, Milton is a seasoned self-taught tennis player who is also a lifelong student of the game. He understands and imparts the physical and mental aspects, focusing on rules, the anatomy of groundstrokes, serve mechanics, footwork, court coverage, strategy, and much more.

Milton has been working and traveling nationwide as a tennis umpire for the USTA, ITA, ATP, and the WTA for 20 years. Often asked if he is a professional player or coach, Milton decided that teaching the sport is something he is very capable of doing, and he is in the process of pursuing the USPTA Recreational Coach certification. He brings a breadth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience that will fuel your interest, ignite your passion, and elevate your game to new heights. Get Into the Game!

I am new to teaching tennis as a career path but have helped other players over the years as a hitting partner, by setting up drills, practice sessions, and match play. These cumulative experiences provide inspiration to teach, which is a natural extension of my love of the sport.

Self-taught for 30 years since freshman year of college and evolved to an all court player.

About the lesson

Milton's approach with a new student involves assessing the student's knowledge of the game, current playing level, and identifying strengths and weaknesses. This lays a foundation for developing a specially tailored set of lessons to achieve marked improvements.

I worked with two international students at Troy University, one a very good beginner and the other a member of the University's tennis team, while working a USTA Women's $50K Pro Circuit event. Highlights were drills, point construction and rallying, and match play.

For a student searching for a tennis coach, I would suggest gathering information, meet in person or via Skype to gain a sense of personality and temperament. You want to like the person and feel that you will be able to bond and make progress on the court.

I had the fortunate pleasure to be selected and assigned to work as a line umpire for a 2016 Fed Cup Tie, USA vs Poland in Kona, HI. Perfect setting and great competition.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before talking with a tennis coach about their needs, students should ask themselves these few questions:

What are my tennis goals?

Am I ready to invest in private lessons to gain individual instruction tailored around my playing abilities?

Am I ready to hear and accept constructive critique of my skills and subsequently apply new techniques and solutions where appropriate?
