About John

I have been giving tennis lessons for 15 years to over 2,200 students from 50 countries and 20 states, ages 4 to 91 from complete beginners to 4.0 USTA, over 100 high school JV and Varsity players both boys and girls from 24 different schools as well as college players D3 and D2 levels. Some players have gone on to play in Nationals. I see things how they are done and can help improve most that I have worked with. Try 1 lesson and see.

I took lessons from someone who was recommended to me. After two years I felt I did not know much more than when I started. My older daughter bought me lessons with this older guy through my brother. I learned more in one lesson with Stan than I did with the other guy. I continued lessons with Stan for a couple years. He got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I offered to drive him to his treatments, he said his daughter could do that but that I could do something she could not, I could help some kids he was teaching to stay with tennis. He told me I had the eye for it and when I said that doesn’t mean I could teach. He said any time I asked you what you would tell them to fix their strokes or mistakes, you told them what I would have told them.

I have a PTR Certification. I have worked with people up to the 4.0 level and have had several collegiate players and a few high school players who have gone on to play at States.

About the lesson

We start with basics and cover everything in a logical sequence building on what the client already has ability to do and what we have done before. Each time we improve on what the client has.

For the last two years I have been the Head Varsity Coach for a private Academy for Boys. We have had two undefeated regular seasons and a couple of the students on the team, started their tennis lives with me when they were in kindergarten.

Every day I step on the tennis courts and teach, I remember my mentor Stan who taught me and got me started. Last year, I was privileged to see two students who started tennis with me as kindergarteners play for NYSPHSAA Section 2 tennis individual boys title. With one day on my left and one on my right, I had to keep my feelings in check as I was proud to have got them started.
