About John

The experience I have working with all types of players. Plus my experience as a player and the people I have coached. From touring pros, Davis Cup players, to top ranked Jrs, Highschool players, intermediate and beginning players, to all levels of Adults. I stress technique, high energy, making sure the student has fun. I have years of experience of helping students reach their goals. I can help direct them to get involved in leagues, teams, and tournaments if they wish. Or just play for recreation.

I love the game of tennis, love coaching it, and introducing it to people so they can enjoy it. It’s a sport they can play for the rest of their life, no matter what level. I love to see them see their improvement and knowing I had part in it.

I began teaching as an assistant at local clubs while in high school, then college, while I was playing tournaments. After college became a Head Pro, then an Director of Tennis of a club.

I have had over 35 years of experience. I have seen it all. Playing and coaching all levels of play Juniors and Adults. I started one of the top 5 clubs in the country. Started and directed one of the top jr academies in the country, 350 juniors and 300 adults in teams and leagues. I have had extensive tournament playing experience. A college All American, and a Hall of Fame Athlete in both College and High School. I played 3 sports in college. Played #1 in tennis and started in both football and basketball. With this experience, I have learned how to compete, and transfer that into coaching, which I have traveled all over the country doing. I am a certified USPTA Prosfessional. That means I have taken testing to qualify as a pro and have to have take continuing education classes to maintain the certification.

About the lesson

First of all I'll ask what their goal is for taking lessons. Or if the student is very young I'll get information from the parent if needed. If they are beginners, intermediates, or if they need specific stroke work, or to just work on their game. Find out what their other interests are. After I evaluate through a few basic toss drills, I will be able to know which direction to go and how to start them. Then form a game plan the student and I will follow to reach their goals.

First of all, I have worked with all types of players. From junior tots, to adult players. My main work has been developing juniors to be top ranked players.

First of all, look for a pro that has extensive teaching and coaching experience. Its a plus, if the pro has playing experience. Take a lesson or evaluation from the pro to see if it is a good fit. Do you feel comfortable on the court with the pro. The pro could be the best in the world, but if it is not a good fit, you may want to search around more.

Watching my son work with a former student that started in my academy that is now ranked in the top 10 in the world in ATP Rankings.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Student should tell the coach what they are looking for, then ask the pro how he would proceed and what protocal he would use.
