Strategizing based on level of experience is very important. I'll first get a sense of ability in areas like intonation, bow control, shifting ability, sight-reading/aural-recollection, in combination with assessing what styles the student would like to play in.
I've taught children as young as four, and adults well into their retirement years, from one on one lessons, to larger groups, and all levels of experience. I've worked with students preparing for University auditions, Symphony auditions, recitals, concerts, and other events.

Details
Quality takes importance over quantity. The most frequent practice is most ideal, and for most days, but shouldn't go for more than fifty minutes at a time. It is more beneficial to spend even five or ten minutes on one small passage of music and work to accomplish that section, than to guage your practice based on number of hours or minutes.
