THE AUTHOR

Alicia Previn was born in California, daughter of the legendary multiple Oscar

and Grammy winning conductor, composer and pianist Andre Previn. Her

second home was London, England where she studied music and violin at the

Royal Academy of Music. As a studio musician she recorded dozens of records

on Capitol, Virgin, Polydor just to name a few...

UNIQUE FEATURES

The Previn Technique serves, as supplemental material to provide the solid

I was born into a family of pianists and singers but after a year I chose the violin. I have taught beginners that have a passion and desire to play and i find it is a gift to teach them.

i can share my vast experience from when I was a student getting through the bumps, all the way to touring around the world with technical gear when you need stamina and improvisational skills. I have played violin in many non-traditional genres. Always love the adventure of doing it and showing others how its done!

I am asked if I teach after a performance or by parents wanting their child to play

Trsined by Los Angeles' top studio musician Virginia Majewski who played on Star Wars and most of the huge movie soundtracks. She also played regularly with the greatest violinist ever known Jascha Heifitz. Also trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England with Joan Rotchford-Davies who trained the Concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra.

I have recorded on many well-known band's albums (see my discography on my website) and single tracks all over the world as well as touring and TV Radio. I am a composer and singer/songwriter

About the lesson

If they are an absolute beginner I show them the parts of the violin and bow, how to hold, how to begin to draw across the strings to make a sound. Bowing is the most important aspect to become familiar with before attempting fingering new notes. Get comfortable playing the open strings freely learning what the notes look like on paper and the value of whole notes, half notes sluring two or more notes together etc.

If they can play I ask them to play what they know and enjoy playing while i listen for intonation, tone, bowing and finger placement.

Then I decide the next steps to build confidence and skill

Details

My standard is $45 per lesson per week. Beginners to intermediate need half hour (usually not more as long as they practice during the rest of the week) and i allow for one "make-up" lesson per month if cancellations arise. The rule is there must be 24 or more hours advance notice.
