About Denise
I offer reasonably priced lessons and i often give my students longer lessons than usual for one set price .With the coronavirus going around and the need for social distancing, I am available for online violin lessons through facebook messenger. I have found that using their video chat feature makes for a pretty decent online violin lesson
I can travel to my students or I can teach out of my home. Parents are encouraged to stay if the child is under the age of 14. I have a very open floor plan and plenty of room for the parents to be comfortable during the lesson.
I enjoy helping others enjoy music in a productive way. I love seeing my students improve on their instrument and I enjoy seeing them have fun with their instrument.
I started out teaching by subbing at Beacocks music. After a year of subbing, I began teaching out of my home.
I studied music at Portland State and privately studied violin under Carol Sindell from 1979-1983. I have many years of orchestral experience with such orchestras such as the Columbia Symphony, Oregon Ballet theatre orchestra, and Pro Arte chamber orchestra. I have been a member of the Vancouver Symphony for 17 years now.

I try to make the new student feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. If they are a beginner, I introduce the different parts of the violin to them along with the names of the four different strings. I provide music at the first lesson so that we can learn some new notes on the violin. We will practice playing the open strings with the bow to get more acquainted with the violin. If the student is beyond beginning, I will assess where she or he is at and go from there.
I have worked with students of all ages ranging from ages 5 to 65.
I would advise a potential student to look for a teacher that has a lot of empathy and patience but also a lot of drive. Definitely not a teacher that does any yelling at all.
Being very proficient on the violin is important also. Look for a teacher that is very focused on her job of teaching the violin and who is one who will always praise the student when they do well on their violin.
A recent event that I am fond of is the Vancouver Symphony Young Artists concert which occurred in June of 2018. The young students that performed with the Vancouver Symphony were so young and incredibly talented. They get better with each passing year.
