About Josh
I have PhD in computational physics from the Tyndall National Institute & UCC. I received my bachelor's degree in theoretical physics from Trinity. Doing a PhD involves a lot of work with no sense of completion until the very end and I find teaching gives a great sense of actually completing a task, and making a difference for someone. There's no better feeling than hearing a student say something like "oh I get it now." Also, I remember the stress and pressure of exams like the Leaving Cert and if I can help to reduce that in any way, I think that would be a good use of the knowledge and experience I've gathered over the past 10 years.

Every student has different needs when it comes to tutoring, so my aim is tailor my approach for every student. I've tutored a wide range of students, from those who were uncomfortable with the basics of algebra, up to those looking to squeeze the last few marks out of exam questions. Although the format of my approach to individual students will vary, there is one general principle I bear in mind. That the best way for a student to understand and remember how to solve a given question is for them to work through the solution actively, with guidance and pointers from me. There's no point in me lecturing! After that, practising questions is the other key to success in maths and physics which, I completely understand, can be difficult in the run up to state exams. I can cover junior and leaving cert maths, physics and applied maths, as well as first and second year maths and physics modules at university level.
