I like to keep my tutoring sessions flexible and geared around how the student learns and what they need help with. I can create structured lessons, but prefer to ask students where they find themselves struggling first, and then see where else they need improvements as we move along.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

In High School I really developed a passion for math and science. I always had a general aptitude for the subjects and as a result, I was inclined to improve my abilities. I was more than willing to help out my fellow classmates as well by helping them improve their own skills and help them study for tests. I continued my science studies in university where I continued to learn more and become even more interested in the subjects, specifically within health. I took up tutoring as a part-time job and I grew to love math again as well as I helped students improve their abilities in the subjects.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

What makes me passionate about math is understanding how well it helps you in all walks of life. Throughout school, most students tend to think math will be useless to them as they can't imagine how they will use it. As I grew up, I realized that having a keen ability to do math is so helpful in many different jobs and in everyday life. It is also an ability that many people do not have and by having that ability, you become a lot more valuable to people. My passion for science has always grown from having an interest in how things work, and from my mother being a nurse. She would always talk about her work and it made me want to move into the medical field. As I grew up, health became more of a passion of mine and improving the health of others was the goal. This led me to pursue my science undergraduate degree and continue to learn as much as I can.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I really just enjoy the interactions I have with students. I like meeting new people and I like being able to make their lives a little bit easier, even if it is just passing a math test. Being able to help a student finally understand a concept and then see themselves practice it on their own, is a thrilling thing for me.

I think what makes me a superprof is my ability to understand where a kid is coming from in their school journey, and relate to them in some way. Everyone is different, some students love math and just want to improve even more, some students hate math and just need to pass. Regardless where that kid is coming from, I am going to try my best to understand them and help them achieve their goals.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I would say my Dad, who is a high school teacher, is my biggest role model. He has always been there for me, to help me in any way he can with no judgments at all. He is someone I look up to when it comes to being a good person and a great teacher. I grew up seeing him with his students and I always thought it would be so cool to have a teacher like him and I try to emulate him in my own teaching.
  • What are your keys to success?

One of my keys to success is always trying to understand where a student is at in their studies first. By understanding how much they know and their abilities at the moment, it is much easier for me to be able to explain things to them in a way they can better understand. Another would be always being patient with a student. It can be frustrating at times when a student can't grasp a concept as quick as you want them to. Being patient is so key though, because when you stay patient with them and try and understand where they are coming from, it shows you really care and they are more willing to put in the work to succeed.
