About Frances
Instruction should feel like a conversation between two musicians rather than a lecture. Imagine the sound of clean fingerpicking ringing out as you master a new scale or mode.
I draw upon 13 years of experience to ensure music theory and power chords become intuitive tools. A practice module is provided with every lesson to keep momentum high. This structure helps students stay engaged regardless of their age. You will leave our time together with a clear roadmap for your musical growth.

Performing across Canada for 8 years shaped my ear for textures and melodies. Sitting with a guitar, I often find that the simplest chord shapes hold the most history. My Bachelor of Music from UBC provides the foundation for teaching songwriting, fingerpicking, and music theory.
Working with 239 students over 13 years has taught me how to adjust to teens, kids, and adults alike. We might discuss scales and modes or the nuance of reading sheet music. Reading tabs and playing power chords are equally vital parts of our time together. My approach remains conversational, even when we are deep into the technical weeds.
