About Gloire

Gloire Kalunga is the name and I graduate with a BA in French very soon. I have studied French from GCSE to degree level. The French language has always been a part of my life- being that I’m of Congolese heritage and grew up getting used to captivating French phonetics and mannerisms ravishing my ears since my toddler days.

I finally was able to put the duality of my identity to the test when I was given the exciting opportunity to study at the prestigious Université Paris Sorbonne IV as part of my degree, where I was based in the faculty of humanities in the ‘Langue Française’ and ‘Philosophie’ department. There, I studied semiotics, morphosyntax, French sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics balanced against the study of French literature, Cartesianism, morality, ethics, political and social philosophy. Studying these topics made me realise that there are philosophical aspects in French language. It was when I came to the understanding, for instance, that the process of communication in any language, not just French, is teleological (in philosophy, that which pertains to consequences or an expected result/end goal) that I was amazed by the interconnection or overlap between my chosen areas of study at Sorbonne. Having studied in Paris for a year, I have, to boot, been able to understand the cultural specificities and linguistic nuances of the French language and I’ll be looking forward to helping you understand these based on the level at which you are studying French.

About the lesson

I will be applying a few teaching methods. These will mainly be visual, game-based (for fun and interactive learning) and auditory methods. However, if none of the teaching methods above satisfy the student’s learning method, they should not hesitate to inform me of which learning method they find suitable. I will always be adaptive. Homework, exam style questions or mini assignments may at times be set, whether this be in the form of speaking, listening, reading, translation and dictation exercises. Again this will depend on the needs of the student and what level they are currently studying at. In any case, I am here to meet the needs of the student, however much they wish to push themselves.
