About James

a principal study cellist who’s graduated with a 1st and a PGCE student who worked in secondary schools and music services in the greater Manchester area..
My name is James! I have been teaching 1 to 1 cello for many years now and my love for teaching started throughout my time at RNCM. Where I graduated with honours and had the great privilege to study under some of the greatest Cello, String and Music theory teachers of our age. Like Gillian Thoday, William Bruce, Donald Grant etc. I began to be enamoured by how much they helped my musicianship and cello playing skills to develop and grow. Motivating me to have gained years of experience teaching students of ranging standards and can guarantee my approach will help you learn the true fundamentals and proper techniques to string playing/music theory in a fun and exciting environment.

I have undergone my own teacher training! to help develop my teaching skills even further, and have learnt that I am an extremely motivating and friendly teacher who strives to mould their students into the best musicians they can be. Whilst still keeping to the true fundamentals of classical music and string playing.

About the lesson

Cello- first lesson will be a taster (free) and will allow me to gauge your current standard and will be a chance for you to tell me what you’re really wanting out of these lessons. Experienced with both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards, so I can help you achieve your goals of reaching that next level!!
As I mentioned above all ability ranges welcome and can expect and warm and positive learning environment!
