About Tristan

I am a first year engineering student at UAlberta (Edmonton). Currently I am trying to aim for a Chemical Engineering Co-Op discipline; however, my next choices would be Mechanical Engineering Co-Op, and Electrical Engineering Co-Op.

I currently have a 3.6 gpa, and I am dead set on maintaining that. Due to the stress of 6 STEM classes per semester, I have developed time management skills, problem solving skills, and unparallel amounts of PTSD (just kidding haha, it is a struggle though).

I used to struggle with math and science back in middle school and high school (3 years ago), getting 60%'s and lower. In grade 11, I suddenly had a switch being flipped inside of my head that allowed me to enjoy Math and Science Courses. I went into high school with 60%'s in Math and walked out with a 91% in Math 31, high school calculus.

In my own opinion, most people actually enjoy math and science courses. It requires a good teacher that is willing to sit down with you, share their previous experiences, and is willing to make sure you understand the content that they teach.

I used to struggle heavily with math, chemistry, and physics (almost failing). I know the pain of hating math, and how it was a waste of time back in middle school. I doubted becoming an engineer until I learned the method to success in STEM classes. Now that I figured out what works for me, I want to help you succeed as well as I love teaching and explaining concepts to anyone. Since I am in engineering (going into chemical engineering), I specialize in Calculus and Mathematics, however, I want to share my knowledge to anyone who wants to hear me out.

P.S. I am not back in Calgary until the 1st of May, 2024. Until then we would have to do virtual meetings. Also I am new to tutoring so please bear with me.

Classes I cover (Alberta Curriculum):
Math 31
Math 30-1
Physics 20
Physics 30
Chemistry 20
Chemistry 30
Calculus 1
Calculus 2 (methods and techniques of integration only)
Differential Equations (including laplace transform)

Typical lesson plans are based around you, and what you are struggling with. Whether it is a concept, or a whole topic, I want to help you succeed so I would base my entire lesson plan on what you are struggling on and I would love to explain it in as many ways as I can think of until you understand it.

Lessons are for anyone; however, I can teach highschoolers and middle schoolers the best.

I also can give advise for midterms, finals, diploma exams, and quizzes as I have experience with all forms of the exams.

My methods would include:
Getting you to try a problem for me
Analyzing what went wrong
Explaining it to the best of my ability
Getting you to try it again, and trying to enforce the concept into your head through demonstrations, solving the problem along side you, giving you steps to solve problems, and giving you practice questions to help enforce the concept
