About Samuel
Hi! I’m Samuel, a native Mandarin speaker and a Psychology student at the University of Toronto. I love working with kids and making learning Mandarin a fun, positive experience! With experience supporting youth and volunteering in mental health and community programs, I bring both patience and energy to every lesson. I believe kids learn best when they feel comfortable and curious, so I always keep my lessons friendly, engaging, and full of encouragement. Outside of teaching, I enjoy chatting, playing games, and exploring creative ways to make language come alive. I’m not just here to teach—I’m someone your child can feel happy to learn with and look forward to spending time with each week. Let’s build Mandarin skills together through laughter, conversation, and meaningful connection!

Mandarin
As a native Mandarin speaker and psychology student at the University of Toronto, I design my lessons to make learning Mandarin both practical and enjoyable. I focus heavily on day-to-day conversational skills, starting each student's journey with a cultural perspective—because understanding the culture helps the language make more sense and feel more alive. My teaching approach is interactive and personalized. I begin with casual topics rooted in daily life—like ordering food, introducing yourself, or chatting with friends. This helps learners build confidence and use the language immediately. I incorporate games, media, and real-world scenarios to keep lessons dynamic and relevant. Each lesson includes: A quick cultural insight or context to frame the conversation Practice dialogues based on real-life situations Vocabulary and grammar points explained in simple terms Light homework or follow-up prompts to reinforce learning What sets me apart is my ability to create a warm, low-pressure learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and improving naturally. These lessons are perfect for high school and university students, newcomers, or casual learners looking to speak Mandarin confidently and comfortably.
