About Jesse

I am an Australian who has lived in the Philippines for more than five years and have spent years immersing myself in Filipino language and culture. My journey learning Tagalog as a foreigner gives me a unique perspective that many native-speaking teachers cannot offer—I understand the challenges, frustrations, and breakthroughs that come with learning the language from the ground up.

Over the years, I have built a significant following on social media through my language and cultural content, where I am known for speaking Tagalog and connecting with Filipino audiences. This has led to multiple appearances on Philippine television, where I have shared my experiences and passion for the language.

Tagalog is also a part of my everyday life. My wife is Filipina, and I regularly use the language with family and friends, giving me practical, real-world experience beyond what can be learned from textbooks alone. This allows me to teach not only correct grammar and vocabulary but also the natural expressions, cultural nuances, and conversational skills that Filipinos use in daily life.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is practical, supportive, and focused on real-world communication. As someone who learned Tagalog from a foreigner's perspective, I understand the challenges that non-native speakers face when learning the language. This allows me to explain concepts in a way that is clear, relatable, and easy to understand.

My lessons are tailored to each student's goals, whether they want to travel, connect with family, communicate with a partner, prepare for relocation, or simply gain confidence speaking Tagalog. I focus on conversational skills from the very first lesson while gradually building grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and listening comprehension. I use a combination of structured lessons, practical exercises, role-playing scenarios, and cultural insights to make learning engaging and effective.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student's needs and learning objectives.

I have extensive experience learning and using Tagalog as a non-native speaker, giving me unique insight into the language-learning process. Rather than relying solely on textbook explanations, I teach the language in a way that reflects how it is actually spoken in everyday life.

My lessons are suitable for beginners through to intermediate learners of all ages. Whether you are completely new to Tagalog or looking to improve your conversational fluency, I can help you build confidence and progress at a pace that works for you.
