About Georgia
I am an experienced fiddle player and folk singer who has worked regularly in the UK and Europe, with an eclectic musical background. I was brought up studying classical violin and working through the Grade system. My interests and playing style moved to explore folk traditions whilst studying A-Level Music.
I went on to study violin and voice for four years on the Newcastle based degree in Folk and Traditional music, where she graduated with a 2:1 BA (hons). I studied with tutors including Catriona MacDonald, Stewart Hardy, Katheryn Tickell, Anna Massie (violin), and Chris Coe, Sandra Kerr, Nancy Kerr and James Fagan (voice).
I currently perform professionally alongside mandolin player Nic Zuppardi, and guitar player Aaren Bennett as 'The Shackleton Trio', and also work as a freelance session musician and composer.
I have experience teaching 1:1 lessons from the age of 6 - 70. A range of beginners and advanced players. I have experience teaching both classical styles, as well as already seasoned classically trained players who want to explore playing in various folk styles.
As well as private 1:1 lessons, I have experience running workshops in schools, and at major folk festivals, as well as summer schools. These include vocal training workshops, songwriting, arranging, composing tunes, learning a tune by ear, and working as part of a big band.
I specialise in English, American, and Scandinavian tunes and styles of playing, however am capable of teaching Irish/Scottish and French styles of playing. I also use the fiddle to accompany myself vocally, so am able to teach techniques such as chopping, and chugging patterns. Training a students musical ear and ability to understand what they hear is a primary focus in my lessons, with limited aid of sheet music to start off with.
I take a pedagogical approach with regards to my teaching; tayloring lessons to an individual rather than following a set 'one size fits all' method.

I take a mixed approach to lessons; combining learning by ear as well as reading music. I'm happy to teach all levels/styles.
I find 45 minute lessons to be most productive - though I am happy to book 1 hour lessons if preferred. 45 minute £35, or 30 mins £20.
Pupils will need their own instrument.
I have a 2:1 BA in music, and am a touring folk musician with 12 years experiencing teaching 1:1 and group lessons/workshops.
I teach from home in Norwich, and whilst I prefer teaching in person I am also available for online lessons via Zoom.

Perfect! Georgia was very welcoming and encouraging. She gave clear instructions and really good resources to practice in between lessons. Very much tailored to what I had said I wanted- very pleased and grateful to have found her.
