About Om

Praised for “virtuosity” and “melodic and rhythmic acrobatics” by the NACWPI Journal, I have been an active saxophonist, composer, and recording artist with 16 years of teaching experience. I've performed throughout the United States and abroad including performances at the Lincoln Center, North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA), and the New York Public Theater. As a passionate educator, I served as Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and Xavier University for 7 years before relocating to NYC where I performed work as a quality consultant musician for D'Addario, the largest saxophone reed and accessory manufacturer in North America. My combined experiences in the freelance, academic, and corporate musical realms are a unique background in providing invaluable knowledge to my students. I've completed 3 degrees in music including a Doctorate degree in saxophone performance at CCM. I also earned my Masters of Music at CCM and my BM at Ball State University. In my graduate student years I was named finalist in the Coleman International Chamber Competition and semi-finalist in the NASA Competition. In 2015, I was awarded an IndianRaga Fellowship for world music and in 2017 was named a Fellow at the New Music Sessions in Cortona, Italy. In recent years I have been a recipient of multiple composition grants and commissions by professional groups and organizations such as Price Hill Will, PASIC, The Carolina Quartet and New Thread Quartet. Notable collaborations include performing alongside Tony Award winner Matthew Morrison and the Lexington Pops, renowned world guitarist Fareed Haque at Dizzy’s Club, and the RagaTone Ensemble at Joe's Pub in New York City.

Hello! My teaching aims to approach each student as a unique individual where I tailor my methods to their needs. I use a highly structured approach in lessons whereby we begin with essential warmups focusing on a host of techniques, from scales and arpeggios, to articulation, breath control, chromatics, and much more depending on the student's level. The remainder of the lesson focuses on practical musical application per the needs of the student, be it method book assignments, solo or ensemble repertoire, or songs. Frequent feedback from my students note my friendly enthusiasm, patience, and sensitivity, balanced with direct teaching and efficient high standards. I'm not here to waste your time, and I pride myself in streamlining lessons to my students' abilities and progress to maximize results. As a former conservatory adjunct professor in the classical performance department, I am particularly experienced in aiding students with solo & ensemble and recital rep, as well as college, honor band, or other auditions.
