About Katie
I played rugby for 6 years. I played with my high school for all four years, as well as two years on a club team after I graduated. While I was in high school, I also had the opportunity to travel to England and Wales to play rugby with my high school team which gave me great insight into how to play good, organized rugby. In my year off of high school, I also helped coach my high school's team of 65 girls, particularly with the forwards. This team had a big turnover, as this was the season after I graduated, and most of our starting line graduated with me. This meant that a lot of newer players that had not seen much field time were starting, so it was difficult to get them started but the season went quite well and the girls ended up getting pretty far in the elimination rounds!
I am also in school to be a high school physical education teacher so coaching and teaching athletics is my passion! I would love to help pass on my knowledge to you and help you on your path to success!

I played rugby for 6 years (all through high school as well as on a club team) and I have had many phenomenal coaches who have taught me so much. I want to pass that knowledge on to current and future rugby players to help give new perspectives on skills and technique.
I assisted my high school's coaching team for their 2017/18 season, in which they did very well despite having a large turnover on the team! I typically helped with the forwards because when I played, I was usually a prop, lock, flank or 8 so that is where most of my knowledge is. However, on my club team we had many plays which ran with forwards and backs together so I do have some knowledge on back technique.
My typical lesson structure would look like a fitness component to get started (such as a run or a brief HIIT workout), followed by dynamic stretching and hitting warmups. I would then proceed into the dissection of an individual skill that either I choose, or the person who scheduled the lesson chose if they have something in specific they want toward on. I will run some drills with varying fitness intensities and analyze and critique the skill, then put the skill into action through some type of game-based activity which will allow a more realistic approach to the skill. Finally, I will finish off with fitness because a major component of rugby is obviously fitness, and the team which is more in shape will come out on top!

Katie is very professional and makes students feel comfortable. She worked with me in my grade 9 science class and grade 10 physical education class, and the students were drawn to her knowledge and charisma immediately. I highly recommend Katie as a tutor!
Katie is a phenomenal tutor. In grade 12, Katie was matched with my son through their high school, and tutored my son in grade 9 in science, math, and French. His grades went up significantly (45% in French and 52% in science after the midterm up to a 64% and 68% respectively by the end of the year)! He also seemed to have a genuine understanding of the information rather than just knowing the materials covered on the test. When Katie told me she wanted to become a teacher I was not surprised at all, as she is naturally gifted when it comes to educating students. I would recommend Katie to anyone who needs a compassionate and knowledgable tutor for their child!
