About Roddy
I am from the Isle of Lewis and am 58 years old. I worked at university for 18 years before taking time out to travel to New Zealand and a few other places!
In terms of my academic background, my first degree was in Rural Development which I then followed up with a postgraduate degree in Rural and Regional Resource Planning.
Upon graduation I worked with Kinlochleven Development Trust as Project Manager, delivering several key economic, environmental and social projects to the area.
Following this, I then began work with the University of the Highlands and Islands, lecturing on the BSc Sustainable Development and MSc Sustainable Development amongst others.
Away from work, I am an active mountaineer and have climbed extensively in the UK, Europe and New Zealand. Finally, I have ten years of being a firefighter, followed by 12 years in mountain rescue. Anything else that you want to know, just ask!

Throughout my academic career, I taught primarily in an online environment, working with students from all over the UK and much further afield. I am happy to meet with students in either a weekly one-hour session or face to face if preferred.
In terms of a methodology, I am flexible depending on the needs of my students, although I have found that by setting some reading/research for you to do during the week, we can then go through what you have taken from that and go on to explore your understanding of that and discuss any issues/questions/uncertainties that you might have.
