About Millicent

Having just finished my first year at The University of Birmingham studying a BA Modern Languages degree in French and German, I am in a perfect position to offer comprehensive tutoring. Language learning is something hugely important to me. In a world where English dominates much music , television and business, it gives us an insight in to new cultures , ensuring we stay open minded.

I have studied French and German at both GCSE and A Level , meaning I have first hand experience of the type of assessment students undergo. I can help to improve their oral skills or written work including grammar or even how to structure an essay. On the other hand, I am also very willing to help those who are perhaps not studying for an exam or certificate but simply want to maintian their level of fluency or brush up on their foreign languages.

In my opinion effective language learning involves a combination of both written and spoken practice. During lessons I would aim to incorporate as much of these elements as possible, that is to say I would concentrate on aspects such as grammar and vocabulary as well as pronnonciation. Using as much of the target language is also important. I believe that immersion in French or German can lead to quick improvements. Therefore , alongside worksheets I would also encourage music , films , tv shows or even newspapers in so as to adapt to the target language.

I have previous experience of tutoring in languages. During my sixth form studies, I taught French to three year nine students which developed my methods of teaching to cater for various abilities.

I achieved high grades in both my GCSEs and A level exams , so am confident I could help students to improve. However , for me Language learning is about having a passion for other ways of life rather than being a homework task.

I look forward to helping others improve and most of all meeting those who share a passion for languages !
