About Koloina

Before speaking about why I love the French language, I will speak about my personal experience as a student, as I believe it has taught me a lot about what I look for in a good teacher.

I studied at an English speaking high school when my family spoke French at home, and continued on to undergraduate school at Cornell University where I studied Design + Environmental Analysis. After working in the field of Architecture for a year, I decided to start my Masters in Real Estate Development at Columbia University.

Currently a student, I plan to work in NYC and abroad to gain experience and grow my network, and eventually develop real estate globally. I cherish the freedom that comes with exploring international opportunities and I believe speaking several languages has opened doors and given me confidence to be adventurous!

My tutoring-experience started when I wanted pocket money as a high school student, and is now a great way for me to continue practicing my home language and sharing my culture with students interested in France or Francophonie!

About the lesson

My approach to learning French is through a mix of media. I embracing a left-brain and right-brain approach to learning, as I believe that films, culture, reading and writing are all important conductors to becoming fluent.

I speak 4 languages fluently and understand the adaptive skills required to integrate oneself in a new language/culture, as well as the memorization strategies that I have seen work best on a case-to-case basis.

Some of the lesson plans I recommend come from books which can be purchased from Amazon, but I can also work with texts recommended by schools or courses students might be enrolled in. This would just require me to review the material ahead of time in order to better understand each student's goals.

I am familiar with AP French and IB level French courses and formatting, and have tutored and prepared students for exams.

The lessons can be for all levels - beginners to professional/conversational comfort as I have lived and worked in French speaking countries my entire life.

I am flexible with my approach and I can adapt to individual needs upon request. I look forward to catering a specific program with you to get you closer to your goals!
