About Bethany
Hi, I'm Beth! I'm a passionate and patient tutor offering English, French, and piano lessons to students who want to learn with confidence.
I studied sociology at Trent University, where I wrote essays and did critical analysis every day. I'm a native English speaker, and I completed French Immersion through grade 12, so I'm comfortable teaching both languages. I also hold intermediate-level qualifications in piano performance and music theory, and I love helping students discover the joy of making music.
I have experience helping young learners too. As a reading program facilitator at my local library, I supported youth in building their English reading skills. That experience taught me how to explain ideas clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and celebrate every step of progress.
My lessons are friendly, organized, and tailored to you. Whether you're working on an essay, practicing French conversation, or learning your first piece on the piano, you'll learn in a supportive space where questions are always welcome and mistakes are simply part of learning.
I'm reliable, prepared, and committed to helping every student feel capable and proud of their growth. I'd love to help you reach your goals!

My Approach to Teaching
I believe the best learning happens when students feel comfortable, understood, and challenged just enough to grow. Every lesson is built around the student's own goals, whether that's finishing an essay, gaining confidence speaking French, or finally playing a favorite song. I explain concepts in plain language, break big skills into small steps, and use lots of examples so that ideas stick.
Teaching Methodology and Techniques
English: I teach essay writing through a clear process: understanding the question, building a thesis, outlining, drafting, and revising. We practice critical analysis by reading short texts together and asking "what is the author arguing, and how do I know?" Vocabulary and grammar are taught in context, using the student's own writing.
French: Lessons mix reading, writing, and conversation. We start with what you're working on, such as homework or a class text, and practice speaking in short, low-pressure exchanges so you can build fluency without fear of mistakes.
Piano: I combine technique, sheet reading, and music theory with repertoire you actually enjoy. We work in small sections, practice slowly, and build habits you can use between lessons.
A Typical Lesson
Check-in (5 to 10 minutes): Review what went well and what felt challenging since last time.
Core skill (20 to 30 minutes): Focused instruction on one main goal, such as a thesis statement, a French verb tense, or a new piano piece.
Guided practice (15 to 20 minutes): You try it with my support, and I give clear, kind feedback.
Wrap-up (5 minutes): We recap and set a small, manageable task for next time.
What Sets Me Apart
I'm a native English speaker with a sociology background, so critical analysis and essay writing are skills I use constantly. I completed French Immersion through grade 12, and I hold intermediate-level qualifications in piano performance and music theory. I've also worked as a reading program facilitator at a library, helping youth build their English reading skills, so I'm experienced at being patient, encouraging, and adapting to different learning paces.
