About Cathy
Hi, I'm Cathy. I'm an experienced English teacher (from Ireland) and tutor with more than eight years' experience working with learners from around the world, both online and in international education settings.
I've taught English and supported learners in several countries, including the UK, Germany and Dubai, as well as spending several years teaching one-to-one online. One of the things I've enjoyed most about online tutoring is getting to know students over time and building long-term learning relationships. Many of my previous students became regulars whom I taught week after week.
I have a First-Class Honours degree in Language & Cultural Studies (Spanish & Sociology), a 120-hour TEFL/TESOL qualification and Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test certification.
Having lived, studied and worked in different countries myself, I understand some of the challenges—and rewards—of communicating in another language and adapting to different cultures. I'm naturally curious about people and enjoy conversations about travel, culture, food, society, work, education, wellbeing, nature and everyday life.
As a tutor, I'm patient, approachable and encouraging. I want students to feel comfortable speaking freely, asking questions and making mistakes without feeling self-conscious. My aim is not simply to correct your English, but to help you become more confident expressing yourself in it.

My approach is friendly, relaxed and personalised, with a strong focus on helping you feel more confident and natural when speaking English.
I have over 8 years' experience in international and online education and have taught and supported learners from many different countries and cultural backgrounds. I've spent several years teaching English one-to-one online, working with adult learners and professionals with a wide range of interests, backgrounds and goals.
I hold a First-Class Honours degree in Language & Cultural Studies (Spanish & Sociology), a 120-hour TEFL/TESOL qualification and Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test certification.
Rather than following a rigid textbook programme, I adapt sessions to you. We'll identify what you'd like to become more confident with and use interesting, real conversations to develop your fluency, vocabulary, expression, pronunciation and ease in speaking.
I can offer gentle correction as we talk, help you find more natural ways to express yourself, introduce useful vocabulary and phrases, and focus more closely on pronunciation or particular areas of English when helpful.
Sessions may be particularly useful if you:
• understand English well but don't always feel confident speaking it
• want more natural and regular conversation practice
• work or study in an international environment
• have moved to an English-speaking country
• want to express your ideas more naturally and confidently
• enjoy learning through conversation about culture, travel, society and everyday life
My main focus is adult learners, particularly those at intermediate level and above who already have some English and want more opportunities to use it naturally. Lessons can be 30 or 60 minutes, depending on your goals and availability.
Above all, I aim to create a comfortable, encouraging space where you can enjoy speaking English, make mistakes without worrying about them, and gradually become a more confident communicator.
