About Melissa

I am early in my tutoring career, with three years of experience and 140 students taught so far, though I bring real dedication and genuine enthusiasm to every session. My own connection to French developed through personal study and travel, which shaped my approachable, conversational teaching style rather than a formal classroom approach. I am patient and encouraging by nature, and I focus heavily on building genuine speaking confidence before pushing students toward more advanced grammar or written work. I particularly enjoy working with students who feel discouraged by previous language learning experiences, since rebuilding their belief in their own ability is something I find deeply rewarding. Parents and students alike often comment on how much more relaxed and willing to speak students become after just a few sessions with me.

About the lesson

As a newer tutor I put considerable energy into really understanding each student individually, spending extra time in early sessions listening to their comfort level with the language before planning lessons. I keep grammar explanations simple and immediately applied through short conversational practice, avoiding overly technical terminology that can feel intimidating to beginners. Feedback is specific and encouraging, always pointing to one or two concrete improvements rather than overwhelming a student with every possible correction at once. I use short, engaging dialogues to build vocabulary naturally, discussing new words in a relaxed, conversational way rather than through memorisation drills. Every lesson ends with a brief, informal recap in simple French, checking the student genuinely understood the main idea before moving on.
