About Devon
Years in the water have given me more than technical knowledge; they have taught me how swimmers think, struggle, adapt, and eventually break through. I bring that understanding into my coaching. I am naturally energetic, encouraging, and genuinely interested in the person behind the swimmer. A session with me isn't simply about counting lengths or repeating drills—it is about understanding what you're trying to achieve and finding an enjoyable route toward it. I can help beginners overcome uncertainty, returning swimmers rebuild confidence, fitness swimmers become more efficient, and triathletes or open-water swimmers prepare for demanding challenges. My coaching combines observation, practical demonstrations, technical correction, and plenty of encouragement. I am comfortable working on individual strokes or developing the complete swimmer, including breathing, efficiency, endurance, pacing, and confidence. I want my students to feel challenged without feeling overwhelmed, because the best progress happens when hard work is accompanied by enjoyment and belief.

You don't have to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong with your swimming. That's part of what we discover together. We begin with an easy warm-up and a few lengths so I can understand how you currently move through the water. Next, we focus on the skill that will create the biggest improvement—perhaps breathing, body position, kick, arm movement, rotation, or timing. I demonstrate the technique and guide you through simple drills until the movement begins to feel natural. We then bring those pieces back together into your full stroke and gradually increase the challenge. Beginners can progress from confidence-building exercises to continuous swimming, while experienced swimmers can work toward greater efficiency, endurance, pacing, or event preparation. By the end, we review your progress and identify what comes next. You're not simply completing another swimming lesson; you're building skills that make the next length, the next session, and eventually the next challenge feel more achievable.
