About Clare

I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher in both the French and English systems. Having trained in France, where I lived and worked for 10 years, I have since taught French and English in UK secondary schools, I am now focused on tutoring individual pupils from KS3 to KS5, enjoying the opportunity to more carefully tailor my lessons to individual needs. In teaching French, this is particularly rewarding as it provides the student with extensive opportunities to engage in oral work and develop strategies which work for them. The relationship I build with my pupils also ensures growing confidence and enjoyment of the subject.

I have two teenage children myself so I am aware of the issues, areas of interest, opportunities and challenges for this age group.

Prior to training as a teacher, I worked in key arts institutions in London and so I am committed to developing a creative approach to teaching and broadening horizons.

About the lesson

Having worked as a secondary school teacher and a private tutor in both France and the UK, I am able to quickly identify and address the individual needs of pupils, tailoring my approach to the appropriate objectives. This could be exam preparation (Common Entrance, GCSE and 'A' Level), developing key skills or filling knowledge gaps. Most important in learning a language, however, is developing confidence and this is central to my teaching practice.

I am keen, above all, to encourage an enthusiasm for learning a language by providing the tools, as well as covering key topics, to achieve both personal and academic success. My own knowledge of life in France means that I am able to make the language have contemporary relevance and develop a pupil's curiosity and love of the culture. My experience and knowledge of schools' approaches, means I am able to consolidate, complement and support pupils' learning in the classroom.

I am passionate about languages and continuously update my practice to ensure creative and engaging approaches. I combine extensive oral work with developing vocabulary and grammar knowledge.
